FIRE ADVISORY REMOVED
Smoky Lake County has REMOVED the "Fire Advisory" effective 10:00 am June 28, 2016.
Smoky Lake County has removed the existing fire advisory. Moisture conditions have improved in the last weeks. Burn permits for brush fires etc are still required, and will be issued by County Fire Guardians, and may still require an inspection before issuance.

Smoky Lake County Emergency Services had another busy year in 2014 the Fire Departments responding to 211 calls which is up 10 calls for 2013. The Fire Departments are working with the RCMP and Victim Services on the Dare and Party Program for the High School kids. In 2014 the Fire Departments completed 3 presentations and Live Extrication Demonstrations to Smoky Lake, Vilna and Thorhild grade 12 classes. In 2015 Victim Services is looking to host the Party Program to the parents of the high school kids.
In training, Smoky Lake County Emergency Services completed the new STARS landing zone training, with the new helicopters in service landing zones and patient loading procedures have changed as well the new STARS helicopters are able to make it to scene quicker keeping the fire crews on their toes. Members completed S 1100 – vehicle extrication, S 300 – basic firefighting and S 500 – ladders and ventilation; as well as recertification in CPR, Automatic External Defibrillator and First Aid. Fire Department members are dedicated in completing training, as the departments are averaging more than a call every second day.

Vilna Fire Department
Vilna Fire Department responded to 77 fire calls in 2014. Vilna Fire Department host another successful Firemen Ball with the proceeds going to the new X-Ray machine for the Vilna Hospital. The Department is committed to matching all donations up to $75,000.00 which is half of the cost for the X-Ray machine great job Vilna Fire!
Smoky Lake Fire Department
Smoky Lake Fire Department responded to 83 fire calls this past year. The Department had quite the busy year and suffered a loss to the fire department with the passing of Dwayne Goreniuk in October with our condolences to the Goreniuk Family. The Fire Department is working with the August Heritage Weekend organizers to come up with a name for the fireworks show in the memory of Dwayne.
Waskatenau Fire Department
Waskatenau Fire Department responded to 51 fire calls this past year. In talks with Alberta Transportation, they are looking to implement a 4-way stop on Highway 28 and Highway 831, and in the spring of 2015 it was successfully completed. Waskatenau Fire Department received a 2008 GMC 5500 4x4 rapid attack unit for grass and wild land fires. click here
