Summer Operating Hours (Effective April 1st to October 31st) 
Hours of Operation: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

• Bellis Transfer Station:  Wednesday & Saturday
• Smoky Lake Landfill:  Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday
• Spedden Landfill:  Wednesday & Sunday
• Vilna Transfer Station:  Tuesday & Saturday
• Waskatenau Transfer Station:  Saturday

 

Winter Operating Hours (Effective November 1st to March 31st)

• Bellis Transfer Station:   Wednesday & Saturday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
• Smoky Lake Landfill:  Tuesday & Saturday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
• Spedden Landfill:   Wednesday & Sunday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
• Vilna Transfer Station:  Tuesday & Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
• Waskatenau Transfer Station:   Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

All transfer sites will accept the following waste: (Warspite and all the subdivision and lake sites accept only household waste)

• General household waste
• Metal, stoves, fridges, freezers, etc.
• Plastic oil jugs/oil/filters
• Plastic milk containers
• Paint/paint cans
• Wood and burnables, branches, etc.
• Grass clippings/garden waste
• Tires
• Propane tanks
• Batteries (vehicles)
• Electronic waste/TVs, computers, printers, etc
  
  

Herbicide and pesticide containers: Herbicide and pesticide containers are no long accepted. Cleanfarms is transitioning Alberta collection sites for recycling empty pesticides and fertilizer jugs from municipal depots at landfill and transfer station sites to agricultural retailers. Please return your triple-rinsed and bagged jugs to your local ag-dealer. 

Sewage: Can be dumped at Warspite and Bellis lagoons, with the approval of the Smoky Lake County Environmental Operations Department.

No sites will accept:

• Deceased animals
• Hazardous waste
• Oilfield waste
• Vehicle bodies

Why do I have to pay $10 to dispose of a mattress?
Mattresses cannot be easily recycled or compacted so they are hauled to the Evergreen Regional site where the County pays for each mattress to be shredded.  By doing this, it reduces our local landfill volumes and helps ensure there is room for all your waste.

 

No Fee Disposals

• Appliances (stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, hot water tanks, barbecues)

• Household and office furniture (tables & chairs, couches and desks, TV’s, stereos, computers)

• Un-bagged leaves, grass, garden waste for composting

• Salvageable Scrap Metal

• Burnable Materials

• Tires

• Trees, Shrubs

• Wet Batteries (cars)

• Dry Batteries (Dry Cell)

Smoky Lake County is offers annually FREE disposal of appliances containing Freon at County Landfill sites for all residents of the Smoky Lake Region during the month of May.
