Fire Restriction In Effect

Smoky Lake County is implementing a Fire Restriction effective 8:00 a.m. April 14, 2025.

The restriction will remain in effect until further notice. The Fire Restriction only allows the following:

1. Camp fires in approved fire receptacles. (A fire pit constructed of non combustible materials with a metal mesh screen)

2. Burning Barrels / Incinerators which are maintained correctly and in good condition. (Burn Barrels must be covered with a with a metal mesh screen 6mm (1/4") or smaller. Burn Barrels must be positioned a minimum of 100ft from any structure or standing timber and must have a non combustible perimeter of 10 feet).

While the restriction is in place the County will not be issuing any fire permits for such things as brush, bales, garden/yard debris or burning pits. The use of fireworks is prohibited during the fire restriction.

It is recommended that all burn permits that were issued be checked, to ensure that they are out and not cause a spring grass fire. Recovery of Firefighting Costs: In accordance with Bylaw: Fire Protection Services, any costs incurred by the County Fire departments will be charged to the landowner/permit holder, if the Fire Department or County is called upon to respond to extinguish a fire.

Smoky Lake County urges everyone to use extreme caution when working or driving in grassy areas, be mindful of hot exhaust and keep vehicles clean and free of debris as smoldering debris can fall off and start fires.
