Road bans are put in place each spring to maintain the integrity of our road infrastructure as temperatures rise. Smoky Lake County has an extensive road and bridge network used by our residents, businesses, and producers. Heavy truck traffic places a high demand on these roads, which are more susceptible to damage this time of year due to the frost thaw. This damage is expensive to repair and placing bans on vulnerable roads helps keep maintenance costs down.

Heavy vehicle and equipment operators should be aware of affected roads and the maximum allowable weights.

Alberta Transportation manages provincial highways, and also issues bans on those roads. A list of bans on these roads is available on the provincial website.

Smoky Lake County thanks road users for their cooperation in protecting our valuable transportation system this spring.
