Parks Canada Funding Contribution GC-1628

Parks Canada acts as an administrative secretariat for the Canadian Heritage Rivers System (CHRS), which was established as an inter-provincial/territorial/federal collaboration in 1984. We thank Parks Canada for providing a funding contribution agreement totalling $45,000.00 toward the Heritage River Study.

Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) Grant (Project #2122-IC-45)

The Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) supports municipalities to create new or enhanced regional services, improve capacity to respond to municipal and regional priorities, and support effective relations through joint collaboration. 

With a $200,000 contribution from ACP, the Village of Vilna (as the managing partner) is collaborating with the City of Fort Saskatchewan, the counties of Strathcona, Clearwater, Lamont, Parkland, Smoky Lake, St. Paul, Sturgeon, Thorhild, Two Hills and Vermilion River, the towns of Devon, Elk Point, Rocky Mountain House, and Smoky Lake, and the Village of Waskatenau to undertake a recreation and tourism study of the North Saskatchewan River, and develop a 10-year regional strategic management plan under the Canadian Heritage Rivers System (CHRS).

Alberta Culture and Status of Women (CSW) Heritage Research Grant

The Heritage Preservation Partnership Program (HPP) is the principal heritage funding program of the Government of Alberta and provides matching grants and scholarship funds to support initiatives that preserve and interpret Alberta's heritage. Through the 'Heritage Research' stream, the department of Alberta Culture and Status of Women is contributing $18,215 toward obtaining archival sources, historical narratives, and interpretive plans.

 
Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP)

The department of Alberta Environment and Parks represents the province's participation in the CHRS program. We thank AEP for contributing $20,000 toward project costs such as protocol and engagement, as well as in-kind support including data. 

North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance (NSWA) Memorandum of Understanding

The North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance (NSWA) is a not-for-profit organization that collaborates with a diverse range of stakeholders to find practical solutions to watershed issues. Under the Government of Alberta’s Water for Life Strategy, NSWA is one of eleven Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils (WPACs) in Alberta and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2020.
 
We thank the NSWA for entering into an MOU and committing up to $8,000 in in-kind support, especially in writing sections pertaining to environmental stewardship and conservation.

The North Saskatchewan Heritage River Initiative is currently being led and project-managed by Smoky Lake County.
